Linda Edna Cardellini (n e Lorraine (Hernan), is the daughter of Wayne David Cardellini (a successful businessman). Her parents are of Italian, German (from the paternal grandmother), Irish and Scottish descendance. Linda was raised in San Francisco Bay and grew to be the youngest of four children. At age 10 her interest in acting when she was a singer during a Christmas production at school. In addition, she continued to perform in school plays and performing in community theater. After her character in the role of Lady Rose MacClare in the period drama series Downton Abbey (2012-2015), her breakthrough was playing the title role in the fantasy film Cinderella (2015). James was later cast as the the role of Countess Natasha Rostova, in the television version of War & Peace, in 2016 and starred several films. They include the action-packed film Baby Driver (2017) and the period dramas Darkest Hour (2017) and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018 and 2021) and the musicals Mamma Mia! We Go Again 2018 and Yesterday (2019). The portrayal she gave of Pamela Anderson for the biographical show Pam & Tommy in 2022 won her the Golden Globes and the Primetime Emmy Awards.
